چکیده

The profiles of spectral lines of a radiator (atom or ion) immersed in a plasma are a valuable diagnostic tool [1]. Under certain conditions [1, 2], the observed line shapes are closely related to the electric microfield distribution (MFD) at the position of the radiator [2]. Since the pioneering work of Holtsmark [2], various theoretical approaches to determine the MFD have been proposed. Most of this work has been done on one-component plasmas, in particular in framework of the very successful APEX scheme [3]. We recently generalized the ’Exponential Approximation’ to a classical two-component plasma (TCP) with attractive ion-electron interaction [4, 5]. For a TCP in thermal equilibrium the normalized MFD, P (E), at the radiator can be expressed through

Microfield distributions in strongly coupled two-component plasmas.

The electric microfield distribution at charged particles is studied for two-component electron-ion plasmas using molecular dynamics simulation and theoretical models. The particles are treated within classical statistical mechanics using an electron-ion Coulomb potential regularized at distances less than the de Broglie length to take into account the quantum-diffraction effects. The potential...

Electric microfield distributions in plasmas of arbitrary degeneracy and density.

A new method of calculating electric microfields in p)asmas, based on density-functional theory (DFT), is presented. Strong-coupling effects, quantum effects, internal structure of the test particle, etc., are conveniently and rigorously treated. DFT is used to calculate the ion-electron and ion-ion pair distribution functions g& and g;&. These are then used to calculate the electron-screened e...

Electric microfield distribution in two-component plasmas. Theory and Simulations

The distribution of the electric microfield at a charged particle moving in a two-component plasma is calculated. The theoretical approximations are obtained via the parameter integration technique and using the screened pair approximation for the generalized radial distribution function. It is shown that the two-component plasma microfield distribution shows a larger probability of high microf...

Ion correlations and ion microfields at impurities in dense plasmas.

An impurity placed in a plasma modifies the particle-particle correlations in the plasma. This impurity-plasma-plasma correction is relevant to ion-microfield calculations in hot dense plasmas as well as to models of the fractional quantum Hall excitations in terms of impurity-plasma systems. We show how to calculate such impurity-plasma-plasma corrections and apply them to a calculation of the...
